Aperol Spritz Cocktail

Aperol Spritz Cocktail

Let’s pop some bubbly! The Aperol Spritz is unequivocally the cocktail of the summer! This popular Italian aperitif is bubbly, citrusy, sweet, slightly bitter and vibrant in both taste and colour. It’s everything you want in a cocktail and so much more. So, if you’re looking for a cocktail to quench your thirst on a hot summer’s day, then you’ll have to give this refreshing recipe a try!

3, 2, 1 and GO! My Aperol Spritz recipe consists of 3 parts dry Rosé Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, 1 part orange juice and 1 part sparkling water. Serve it over ice (and plenty of it), stir and garnish with an orange slice. That’s it! It couldn’t be easier to make and is one satisfying sip!

The cocktail is traditionally made using a white Prosecco. But, I love using a dry (or brut) Rosé Prosecco. Rosé Prosecco is similar to your standard Prosecco but it is made using a combination of Glera white and Pinot Noir grapes. This sparkling wine adds complexity, a depth of flavour and a slight pink hue to this cocktail. Aperol, a low-alcohol botanical liqueur, and freshly squeezed orange juice (there’s nothing quite like freshly squeezed) are added to the mix and impart bittersweet and citrus notes, as well as an intense orange hue to this drink. Top it off with sparkling water, because who doesn’t love some added effervescence!

This no-fuss cocktail comes together in under 5 minutes, uses 4 simple ingredients and couldn’t be easier to make! So, let me show you how it’s done. Grab a spoon and come and cook with me!

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 0 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Serves: 1

Ingredients:

  • 3 ounces dry Rosé Prosecco, chilled

  • 2 ounces Aperol liqueur

  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed orange juice (approx. 1/2 a medium orange) (See Notes below)

  • 1 ounce unflavoured sparkling water or club soda, chilled

  • Ice cubes

  • An orange slice, as garnish

Instructions:

  1. Grab a wine glass and fill it halfway with ice cubes.

  2. To the glass, add the Rosé Prosecco, Aperol and orange juice.

  3. Top it off with sparking water (or club soda) and, using a stir stick or spoon, stir until fully incorporated.

  4. Garnish with an orange slice and serve and enjoy! Cheers!

Notes:

  1. Freshly Squeezed: I recommend and love using freshly squeezed orange juice in this recipe. But, if you don’t have an orange handy, you can simply substitute it with store-bought orange juice. Just be sure to use 100% pure orange juice. Some brands contain added sugars and using them in this recipe will result in an overly sweet drink.
