Baked Brie with Honey

Baked Brie

Say cheese!! Cheese!! You would be pressed to find a charcuterie platter that doesn’t include Brie - a decadent and rich cheese. This cow’s milk based cheese hails from a region called Brie in Northern France. It’s incredibly soft, buttery and creamy. Wait - what could be better than that?! I’ll tell you - it’s my Baked Brie with Honey recipe.


Brie cheese is topped with honey and fresh thyme and is baked until it’s soft, slightly melted and gooey! A sprinkling of flaky sea salt rounds out the flavour of this dish. Doesn’t that sound delicious?! 


Once you bake brie, you’ll be wondering why you haven’t done it sooner! This 4 ingredient appetizer couldn’t be simpler to make and comes together in under 20 minutes. Serve it at your next date night, dinner party or social gathering and get ready to impress all your guests!

Prep Time: 3 minutes

Cook Time: 16 minutes 

Total Time: 19 minutes

Serves: 4 - 6


Ingredients:

  • 200g Brie cheese wheel (See Notes below)

  • 2 Tbsp honey, divided

  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves, stems removed

  • 1/4 tsp flaky sea salt

  • Crostini or your favourite crackers, as an accompaniment (See Notes below)

  • Fresh fruits, such as grapes, figs and strawberries, as an accompaniment 

  • Fruit preserves or jam, as a topping


Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F and set aside a small baking dish or brie baker.

  2. Remove the Brie cheese from the refrigerator and let is stand at room temperature for 20 minutes. 

  3. Unwrap the Brie cheese and place it into the small baking dish or brie baker. 

  4. Using a sharp pairing knife, score the cheese in a criss-cross pattern, leaving 1/2 inch of space between the lines. Top with 1 Tbsp of honey and fresh thyme leaves.

  5. Bake for 16 minutes or until the cheese is soft and slightly melted or gooey. 

  6. Carefully, remove the Brie from the oven and transfer the baking dish to a heatproof surface, such as a wooden cutting board. 

  7. Drizzle the remaining 1 Tbsp of honey over top and garnish with a sprinkling of sea salt.

  8. Serve it alongside crostini, crackers, fresh fruits and fruit preserves or jam. Enjoy!



Baked Brie

Notes: 

  1. Bringing the Cheese to Room Temperature: To promote a more even and consistent bake, be sure to bring the Brie cheese to room temperature prior to baking.

  2. Criss-Cross Pattern: When scoring the Brie cheese, you want to create a slight indentation in the rind. Avoid cutting through the cheese or you’ll be left with a soupy mess.
