Spice, spice baby! I’m FALLing for my Homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte. It’s rich, bold, creamy, perfectly spiced and full of big pumpkin flavour. It’s the epitome of autumn and coffee vibes wrapped up into a single cup or mug!
My Pumpkin Spice Latte recipe is made using milk, pumpkin purée, brown sugar, vanilla and pumpkin pie spice. When heated, the pumpkin puree and spices infuse the milk with tons of deep and warming flavours. The milk is then poured over top a hot shot of espresso (or strong coffee) to create this crave worthy treat. You can enjoy it as is or go to town and treat yourself! For extra decadence, add a dollop (or two) of whipped cream, a faint dusting of pumpkin pie spice and a cinnamon stick. These ingredients come together to create a symphony of flavours in your mouth.
Grab your Pumpkin Spice Latte, a cozy sweater and your favourite blanket and curl up on the couch and enjoy your drink. These moments are meant to be savoured and you deserve it! So, let me show you how it’s done. Grab a spoon and come and cook with me!
Ingredients:
1 cup 2% milk or unsweetened almond milk
2 1/2 Tbsp pumpkin puree (See Notes below)
1/2 - 1 Tbsp brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice (See Notes below)
1 shot of espresso or 1/4 cup of strong coffee
A dollop of whipping cream and a dusting of pumpkin pie spice, as a topping
A cinnamon stick, as garnish
Instructions:
To a small saucepan set over medium heat, add the milk, pumpkin purée, sugar, vanilla and pumpkin pie spice. Whisk until fully combined. Heat the mixture until it’s steaming and hot, approximately 4 minutes. Avoiding boiling the mixture.
Add the espresso or strong coffee to a coffee mug and pour the hot pumpkin spice milk over top.
Enjoy it as is or for some extra decadence, top your pumpkin spice latte with a dollop (or two) of whipped cream and a dusting of pumpkin spice.
For additional Fall flair, finish off this latte with a cinnamon stick.
Notes:
Not All Pumpkin Purées Are Alike: At the grocery store, you will see pumpkin purée and pumpkin pie filling on the shelves. The latter is full of spices and sugar and using it in this recipe would result in an overly spiced and sweet drink. So, stick with 100% pure pumpkin purée and you won’t be disappointed.
I Don’t Have Pumpkin Pie Spice At Home: Don’t fret! I’m going to teach you how to make your own at home! All you need is a few warming spices and you’ll have yourself some pumpkin spice in no time. To a small spice jar, add 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp ground ginger, 1/4 tsp nutmeg and a 1/8 tsp ground allspice or ground cloves. If you prefer a milder and more floral pumpkin spice profile, you can simply substitute the ground allspice or cloves with 1/8 tsp cardamom. Now, you’ve made yourself your very own pumpkin pie spice blend, that can be enjoyed whenever your heart desires. Add it to your favourite drinks, sweets or savoury items and you’ll have a little taste of fall with every sip and bite!
