Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 35 - 40 minutes
Total Time: 45 - 50 minutes
Serves: 6 - 8
Ingredients:
Chicken Wings
2.4 lbs (1.1kg) chicken wings
2 Tbsp avocado oil
2 Tbsp cornstarch
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp sweet paprika
1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
Honey Garlic Sauce
1/4 cup water
1 Tbsp cornstarch
1 Tbsp avocado oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1/2 cup honey
3 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce (See Notes below)
1/2 Tbsp seasoned rice vinegar
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 425F and line a 11” x 13” rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Drizzle avocado oil over top, ensuring that it is evenly distributed.
Preparing the Chicken Wings: Remove the chicken wings from the refrigerator and let them come to room temperature for approximately 20 minutes.
Creating the Dry Rub: To a small bowl, add the cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, onion powder, paprika and freshly ground pepper and whisk until combined.
Pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel and toss them into a large bowl. Sprinkle the dry rub over top and give the chicken wings a good toss until they are well coated in seasoning.
Cooking the Chicken Wings: In a single layer, transfer the chicken wings to the baking sheet. Bake for 35 - 40 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through, flipping the chicken wings over halfway through the cooking time.
Making the Honey Garlic Sauce: While the chicken wings are cooking, add water and cornstarch to a small bowl and whisk until combined.
To a medium saucepan set over medium heat, add the avocado oil. Once hot, toss in the red pepper flakes and garlic and cook for 1 minute. Then, add the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar and cornstarch slurry and bring the mixture to a boil. Boil for 2 minutes then reduce the heat to low and cook for an additional 3 minutes or until the sauce has thickened.
The Finishing Touch: Remove the wings from the oven and transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the Honey Garlic Sauce over top and give them a toss, ensuring that the wings are well coated.
Transfer the wings to a serving platter and serve and enjoy!
Notes:
Make It Gluten-Free: If you are looking for a gluten-free alternative, you can simply substitute the low sodium soy sauce with gluten-free low sodium tamari on a 1:1 basis.
