Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 17 minutes
Total Time: 32 minutes
Serves: 5 - 10
Ingredients:
1 can (226g) crescent dough
1 package (375g) all beef hot dogs (10 hot dogs)
1/2 tsp honey and 20 mini eyeball candies, as garnish (See Notes below)
Ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise, for dipping
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 375F and line a 11” x 17” rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
Remove the crescent dough from the can and unroll it on top of a cutting board or counter. Using your fingers, press down on the perforated lines to seal the dough.
Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, cut 30 strips of dough and set aside. Divide the dough into 10 groups of 3 strips.
Grab a hot dog and 3 strips of dough. Starting at the top of the hot dog, wrap the strip around the hot dog in a clockwise direction. Then, grab a second strip of dough and wrap it counter-clockwise. With the final strip, wrap it around the hot dog in whatever direction you chose, filling in any large gaps. Be sure to leave a gap at the top to make room for the mummy’s face. Repeat the process for the remaining hot dogs and strips of dough.
Transfer the mummy hot dogs to the baking sheet, leaving at least 1 inch of space between them.
Bake for 17 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and the hot dogs are cooked through. Remove the mummy hot dogs from the oven and let them cool for 5 minutes.
To add the eyes, dip the base of the candy eyeballs into the honey and adhere them to the mummy's face. The honey works double duty here - it adds a little sweetness and serves as an edible adhesive.
Transfer them to a serving platter or plate and serve alongside ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise. Enjoy!
Notes:
All Eyes On You: If you don’t have mini eyeball candies handy or can’t find them at your local grocer, bulk food or specialty supply store, then you can reproduce this look with 2 simple ingredients - mayonnaise and black olives. Add 2 little dots of mayonnaise to the mummy’s face and top each with a small piece of olive. Voila!
