Do you love bacon? How about perfectly cooked bacon? Do you want to cook bacon without having to hover over the stove? Or, worry about it making a mess? If you’ve answered yes to all of these questions, then you’ll have to try my Simple Oven Bacon recipe. It’s really a game changer and a treat!
I’ll teach you how to make the most succulent and crispy bacon in the oven. The trick here is using the double baking sheet method. Not only does it allow the bacon to cook in its own juices, but it also flattens it, making it perfect for sandwiches, like a BLT or Turkey Club, or as a topping for burgers. If that wasn’t enough of a selling feature - the double baking sheet method keeps the juices contained, making clean up a breeze.
You can stick with my Simple Oven Bacon recipe but, why stop there! Top it with my hot honey sauce and you’ll never make bacon any other way! The result is candied bacon that is the perfect combination of sweet, salty, spicy and finger licking good. Consider making two batches, as one will disappear very quickly!
If you love bacon, you'll have to try my Frisée Salad with Bacon or BLT Sandwich. For the BLT recipe, check out the "Notes" section below!
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 22 - 25 minutes
Total Time: 27 - 30 minutes
Serve: 4
Ingredients:
Bacon
375g bacon slices (See Notes below)
1/2 tsp garlic powder (See Notes below)
1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper (See Notes below)
Hot Honey Sauce
2 Tbsp honey
1 Tbsp Sriracha (See Notes below)
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 425F. Grab two 11” x 17” rimmed baking sheets and two sheets of parchment paper, large enough to cover the base of the pan.
Preparing the Bacon: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Then, in a single layer, lay the sliced bacon over top. Season with garlic powder and pepper. Cover the bacon with the 2nd sheet of parchment paper followed by the 2nd baking sheet.
Transfer the bacon to the oven and bake for 20 minutes.
Making the Hot Honey Sauce: To a small bowl, add the honey and Sriracha, mix until combined and set aside.
The Finishing Touch: Remove the bacon from the oven and carefully remove the top baking sheet and layer of parchment paper. Brush hot honey sauce over each of the bacon slices.
Transfer the baking sheet back into the oven and cook uncovered for an additional 2 - 5 minutes or until the bacon is fully cooked. Serve and enjoy!
Notes:
Sliced Bacon: Bacon slices come in all shapes and sizes - thinner slices require a shorter cook time while thicker cuts benefit from a little more heat. Be sure to keep an eye on the bacon during the last few minutes of cooking, as the colour changes quickly.
Keeping it Simple: If you are a bacon purest, omit the seasoning and hot honey sauce and simply cook the bacon covered for 20 minutes and uncovered for the final 2 - 5 minutes of cook time.
Double Baking Sheet Method: I love cooking bacon using this method as it keeps the bacon flat during the cooking process and makes for an easy clean up.
Any Hot Sauce Will Do!: I love using Sriracha in this recipe, but feel free to substitute it with your favourite hot sauce.
Craving a BLT?: Check out my BLT Sandwich video below! Grab 2 slices of your favourite bread and toast it to your desired level of doneness. Slice a tomato and season it with salt and pepper, to taste. Now, to build the BLT: Start with one slice of bread and top it with romaine lettuce and sliced tomato. Smear 1/2 Tbsp of mayonnaise over the tomato, top it with 3 slices of cooked bacon and cover with the remaining slice of bread. Serve and enjoy!
