Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Total Time: 35 minutes
Serves: 4 (Makes 4 patties)
Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs lean ground turkey (See Notes below)
1/2 cup finely chopped red onions (approx. 1/2 red onion)
1/3 cup grated carrots (approx. 1 small carrot)
1/4 cup parsley leaves, finely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, peeled and minced
1/2 Tbsp capers, drained and roughly chopped
1 egg
1 Tbsp tomato paste
1 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1/2 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
4 hamburger buns
Arugula, tomato and red onion, as a topping
Ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard, as a topping
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 400F and line a 11” x 17” rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
To a large mixing bowl, add the ground turkey, red onions, carrots, parsley, garlic, capers, egg, tomato paste, mustard, salt, onion and garlic powder and pepper. Using your hands or a spoon, mix until all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Then, shape each into a disc, measuring approximately 3/4 inch in thickness. Using your thumb, create a slight indent into the centre of each of the patties.
Place the turkey burgers onto the baking sheet, leaving 2 inches between each patty.
Bake for 20 minutes or until the turkey burgers are well-done. You know your turkey burgers have cooked through when the internal temperature reaches 165F (74C).
Top your turkey burgers with arugula, sliced tomatoes, onions and whatever condiments your heart desires. Sandwich the patties between the hamburger buns and serve and enjoy!
Notes:
Indentation is Key: When forming the turkey burger patties, it is important to create an indent in the centre of each of the patties, This will prevent the patties from shrinking and puffing up during the baking process.
Reheating a Cooked Patty Without Drying it Out: Reheating cooked turkey burgers can be tricky and often results in dried out patties! Nobody likes a dry burger! So, to ensure that you’re left with the juiciest patty, simply add 1 Tbsp of water and the turkey burger patty to a microwave safe bowl. Cover and microwave on high for at least 1 - 2 minutes or until heated through. The steam will gently heat the burger without drying it out!
